Cherating, Accommodation

A variety of accommodations are available in Cherating, ranging from chalets, hotels, resorts to apartments.

The chalets near the beach.

After surveying the prices of several places, the Cherating Bay Resort was chosen. The weekend price is RM150 plus 5% tax (RM157.50 in total). With a price that’s slightly dearer than the Shanzan Inn in Fraser’s Hill, I’d say the Cherating Bay Resort is slightly a loser.

Perhaps I should not compare because they are located at different tourism destinations.

However, the breakfast provided differs greatly. You only get white bread (not even a wholemeal option), fried rice, fried beehoon, a type of Malay kuih and banana from the Cherating Bay Resort, together with not-so-nice tea or coffee. (Sorry for being harsh!)

There are actually several cheap chalets nearby, which cost around RM60-70. Before arriving, the plan was to stay at a chalet near the seaside. Yeah, the prices are indeed cheaper. Anyway, seeing the surroundings which are hardly considered clean, finally the original plan was changed.

The following is quoted from someone’s review:

“While these are usually the cheapest boarding you will find along the beach, looking at the thin mattresses and flickering light bulbs in some of these places makes me feel like I should spend a few Ringgit more for a good, sound sleep. For just a fraction more, you’ll end up with a good breakfast buffet spread, a television that works, hot running water and a fantastic view.”

Some may say, staying at the Malay-style chalets gives you another kind of special feeling (the rustic charm, maybe). I think I’ve got more than enough experience staying in a wooden house. I actually wonder why the wooden chalets at Cherating (and their surroundings) are not taken care of and well-maintained since they were built and operated for business.

They are supposed to be more attractive than what were seen.

These are a few shots from the Cherating Bay Resort...

The washroom is okay, but the shower is kind of “weak”. I’m not sure if choosing a first floor unit makes the difference.

The room is okay too, but the noise of the door to the washroom is uncontrollable.

The living room - no Astro channel from the TV.

If coming with friends and wish to have activities like steamboat, staying in an apartment is usually more suitable than staying in a hotel.

The swimming pool looks nice. The breakfast took place near the pool. Anyway, you might see a cat sipping the pool water there.

According to the receptionist, there are 100 units here in total.

The Residence Inn is just opposite the Cherating Bay Resort. I reckon you can get better breakfast here with less than RM4/night difference of price.
