Kemaman, Stuffed Crab
Read about the stuffed crab at Kemaman while searching for information about Cherating online.
Kemaman is a district of Terengganu near the Pahang-Terengganu border. It houses the largest oil mill in the country, beautiful and picturesque beaches, as well as extremely deep water ports.
From Cherating, drive all the way towards Chendor, then to Kemaman or Terengganu, passing by a lot of stalls at the roadside selling Keropok Lekor, Sata (a blend of succulent boneless fish marinated in spices, wrapped in banana leaves and grilled over a flaming charcoal fire – it tastes sweet) and Otak-Otak.
Follow the way to Kuala Terengganu or Dungun by turning right at a traffic light. Then, on the right hand side, the Store shopping mall is clearly visible. Go straight on. At another traffic light with counter, turn right, passing by the TNB on your right, and the Chukai Market on your left.
The shop is situated at the Chukai downtown, where you can see more Chinese.
Stuffed crab is the specialty of the Tong Juan restaurant, which is located beside a RHB bank and facing the Kemaman River. This eatery started its operations since 1971 by Mr Chew, attracting numerous local patrons, foreigners, and high ranking personnel over the years.
Cooked crab meat is extracted from shell and fried together with ingredients such as eggs, onions, spring onions, garlic and parsley. The mixed paste is then filled back to the crab shell, covered with egg white and deep fried. It’s served with chilli sauce (the typical chicken rice chilli) which is more sour than spicy.

I’d like to share some facts about Terengganu, a place I visited in 1991, till now (there is a big 16 years gap in between). We almost forgot that the weekend holidays for the people there are not Saturday and Sunday. It was kind of weird when on Sunday, I saw students going to a school whilst I was not working but still travelling.
