Summons

Early in the morning on 5 Nov 2007 (Monday), I was summonsed at the GCE Highway Shah Alam, for overtaking at the emergency lane.

I'm already not a "pure" driver who never ever breaks any traffic rules. Years ago, I got 2 summonses in Penang for illegal parking.

The first time was at the Bukit Jambul Complex, summonsed by MPPP (Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang). I think I paid around RM10-20 for the fine. Can't recall the exact figure.

The second summons was issued by the police, for another illegal parking near the China Press Penang. We were lazy to find a proper parking, thinking that a quick visit to the China Press should be okay. Who knows... For that, I paid RM30, and I kept the receipt till now.

Two weeks ago, I left Sekinchan for Shah Alam for work. At somewhere which is normally quite jammed, I made the mistake. Yeah, it was an intentional one. I tried taking the emergency lane once, and was excited for being able to proceed fast. However, I was unlucky that day.

The police stopped me, asked for my driving license and identity card. Then, he said to me, most probably you should have known what mistake you did (of course he spoke in Malay). I said nothing. He said he'd issue me a summons. I still said nothing. Just felt a bit regret for not being patient. However, since I was really wrong, I can accept being issued a summons.

You know, I was really pissed off with them, making me reluctant to speak. Otherwise, I might have tried saying something to get rid of the fine. But at that moment, I had no mood at all. To be on the safe side, let me skip the reasons and my personal critics.

However, I'm not the kind who will keep the summons and pretend nothing has happened. I will pay. Therefore, the next thing is about how much and where to pay the summons.

The Rilek homepage. Have to register an account in order to login.

It's clearly stated that the offence is compoundable (do not have to attend court if the fine is paid within certain period). I double-checked the summons from Rilek before doing anything.

Go to the correct category.

For some people, entering the new IC No may not work correctly. So try both old and new IC numbers.

By making some phone calls, I also got to know that:

  1. there will be no discount for the offence "overtaking at the emergency lane".

  2. fine can be paid at any police station with a Traffic Counter.

  3. the Traffic Counter is in operation only from 8am-3pm, Monday to Friday.

  4. fine can also be paid at the counters at IOI Mall or The Mines, operating from 4-8pm.

Someone also told me that, he used to get a RM80 summons, but he ignored the summons till getting a legal letter. As a result, he had to pay RM300.

To minimize the hassles to travel (not having idea how to get to the Shah Alam Police Station at Seksyen 11), I tried to pay the summons online through Rilek. Was actually hesitant if the system works. However it was a positive outcome.

(Click for bigger images.)

The summons details are clearly stated. I have to pay RM200.

Mark the summons to pay online, then select the appropriate bank.

After doing the neccessary, the system will launch the login page of the selected bank.

This is for Maybank2u user. Login as usual.

Details of summons are again displayed for confirmation. Click next if the info is correct.

Request, wait and enter TAC.

Payment confirmation. As stated on the Rilek homepage, the additional RM2 is the convenience fee for JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan) and PDRN (Polis Diraja Malaysia) compound payment.

After paying the RM202, I dare not promise that I will be a good person ever after. I'm breaking traffic rules everyday, at least for making a U-turn at somewhere I'm not supposed to do so, nearby my company.

What to do? It's just being silly going further to make a valid turn, which traffic jam or long queue is just there. Wish myself luck then!

What a long post you had... and you paid 202RM for a fine...

You better come to China. It's righ-hand-side road here and I'm experiencing a lot of
- right-side over taking.
- left-side parking.
- parking right at the intersection
- stopping right at the intersection, blocking all traffic and disregarding all loud horn.

All without getting fined heheh ;)

No no... not spreading the bad habits, I'm spreading the facts.

Vietnam is worse... they don't have too many cars like in China, but too many motorbike.

And for the records, buses are the same. In China bus driver shut the door when i stepped only half my first leg on... woah my girlfriend had to shout at him so he open the door for me.

re-no to pay summon :) said...

you, you, you... really pay? aiyo~ if the summon is issued by local government, most ppl will just ignore it, unless issued by the traffic polis. Coz that's the one stop you from renew roadtax.

Now you know you whr u belong. (Anywhr, except malaysia) :P
