As we all know, the living expense in ShangHai is high. Therefore, for lodging, we had expected it to be more expensive than other places. Prior to arriving at ShangHai, we had booked our accommodation with Utels International Youth Hostel (上海万里路国际青年酒店).

It's $60 per night for a non-member. A member pays only $55 (as of 3/8/2007).

From the ShangHai Train Station, you need to take a metro (line 3, line 4) to the Caoyang Road station (曹阳路站). The hostel is located within walking distance from the metro station.

Address: No. 50, 300 Nong, Wuning Road, Putuo District, Shanghai, China. (上海武宁路300弄50号)

Tel: 86-21-52905577

There were quite a lot of westerns there. When we met an Italian in Hangzhou later, he said he stayed here during his several times in ShangHai, too.

From my personal point of view, this place is quite nice and cozy (we woke up late everyday, hehe). The shared bathrooms are clean, and hot water is available. You can also do your laundry here for $10. A special coin needs to be obtained from the counter upon payment.

The entrance.

There is an area which you can get online using public PC, but the price is fairly dear, $10 per hour!

The location of Utels is strategic. The transportation is convenient and it is easy to get around. Train station and airports are accessible from here.

You can unwind in a soothing ambience.

We stayed in a 4-person dorm, three of us and a 19-year-old girl from JiangXi (江西), who was preparing for English exam. She said Feng looks like the same age as her. OMG~

Tell ya a secret, I particularly like this small light very much :)

As mentioned, this is a 4-bed room, consisting of 2 double-deckers.

There is an air-cond, as well as a locker, linen and duvet for each person. However, there is no TV.

However, this is the place I mentioned before, where the staff told us that we should pay $10 for them to help us book the accommodation (under the same company) at the other place. We ended up calling the place ourselves after knowing vacancies were available on the specific dates.
