Sorry guys, not being naggish, but just can't wait to tell ya:

The migration of this site to a custom domain has been successful! Take a look at your address bar!

However, there is no change on how you access this site. The "old but hard-to-remember" URL is still valid.

"Something has changed whilst something remains."

See ya in 2008!

Last in 2007

Last year, I had a post "Last in 2006". This year, I was wondering if I'm gonna do the same.

However, I know there is something going on in my mind, while I flipped through the old newspaper features of Sin Chew Jit Poh. Eventually, I finished scanning the whole big stack of collected newspapers. This is one of the things I'd like to get done by the end of 2007.

The next thing is to sort out the brochures/maps/booklets/papers I got before and during my trip to China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Talking about the trip, I think that's my best accomplishment in the year 2007, and I'd like to thank Feng and Wooi Yee for accompanying (Pei Shuen & Kai Lung as well). Sometimes I find it unbelievable that 4 months have passed after the trip. In the 4 months, lotsa things in my life have encountered big twists, and I've gone through uncountable mood swings.

From being treasured, pampered and loved, suddenly I became just an ordinary someone, who is too much to be seen.

Had an "official" birthday celebration in the office, for the first time, with the people I like, but with the most dilemma ever.

I left my dearest colleagues to a new job.

From being anxious of how I couldn't retain my rationality and independence, finally I'm back to the original me.

Writing extensively is one of the many ways out for me, as it switches my negative attention from the inappropriate focus. More importantly, it lets me know that I was not wrong going for the one-month trip.

Oh yeah, I've also got the chances to know our country better by visiting Sungai Lembing, Malacca, Fraser's Hill, Taiping and Cherating. Thanks to those who went to these places with me.

Last night, I checked through the small book with calendar planner, which I used throughout the year to record a lot of things. It is always carried together whenever I go. Recently, I obviously find that it's insufficient for my use anymore, as a lot of spaces have been filled, and there is nothing about 2008. Therefore, I've got myself another one for the new year, and I checked if any info recorded is to be "carried forward" to the new book.

Again, the feeling of "time passes swiftly" sneaked out, and I was a little stunned.

Yesterday, I read the following (original version is in Chinese):

Life is a continual growth. It's like a river, keeps flowing regardless of any barrier, and finally reaches the sea. There is no "must" in our life, but we have a direction - to look at the present optimistically and positively. We grow by confronting with despair. From there, we learn, root stronger and continue moving forward.

Today, I re-read the newsletters by Andrew Matthews:

Why Think Positive?

When things go wrong, remember:

It's not WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU that matters most.
It's how YOU THINK ABOUT what happens to you …

When you fight life, life always wins!

Once we change our thoughts about "a bad situation", we can take advantage of it.
You already know this!

Life's great opportunities mostly arrive disguised as misfortune and disaster.

EXAMPLE:
Imagine two women, Mary and Jane.
Both get divorced.
Mary says, "I've failed. My life is over."
Jane says, "My life has just begun!"
Who will blossom?

IN A NUTSHELL

Every "disaster" in your life is not so much a disaster, as a situation waiting for you to change your mind about it.

In the year 2007, I've gone through different gains and losses. Although sometimes I wish some of them have never happened, I then tell myself, just take them as lessons, at least I've learnt something. It's better than living in comfort, and when someday we think back, we could recall nothing.

Let bygones be bygones.

I believe I've also done something wrong to others, and I hope they can forgive me. I always try to kick the ass of hatred out of my place, but occasionally I just can't do it too well.

Where do we get the idea that if WE don't forgive people, THEY suffer? It's nuts!

To forgive someone, you don't have to agree with what they did. You just have to want your life to work.

IN A NUTSHELL

Is it easy? Usually not. But you don't forgive people for their benefit. You do it for your benefit.

~ Andrew Matthews

I do have some wishes for 2008, but I'd choose to keep them in mind. Sometimes the reality and imagination are just too far apart. I opt for more flexibility this time :)

Will not have time to blog tomorrow, for the last piece in 2007.

Happy New Year to my readers. I sincerely hope for a greater improvement, and wish you are still with me, in the coming year.

Added on 31/12/2007: I woke up today and felt energetic. I'm the kind always looking for new start. Why? Perhaps I have a dirty past? Whatever. I like it when I'm jubilant.

Blog Changes

Dear readers, you must have noticed the layout change of this site, from the bear-like brown color to a more colorful one with my favorite blue.

Old:

New:

How do you feel? Does the new one look better?

I've been thinking to change the blog template for quite some time. However my focus is always more in writing. Since at the moment I've more than enough posts to publish on a daily basis till the end of 2007, I'm spending some time on the template.

It's just a simple change. The new layout is not very bombastic, neither reveal a lot of my personality nor show very much uniqueness.

Another WIP thing I'm working on is the migration to a custom domain. Have been encountering several failures. Am yet to find out the reasons. Hope I do not have to consult Binh and it can be done ASAP.

This time, I dare not clearly define my "ASAP" :)

Oh yeah, you must have also seen a small triangle on the top right corner, which invites a kind click from you. It's a contest and your click means a vote. Am not too sure how the votes are counted (IP tracked?). They just said:

In order to avoid abuse of our system, we have enabled every user to vote only once per hour.

If you wonder what contest is it, after clicking, you will be directed to its official site, and things are clearly stated there.

I know I'm not very great, but just try my luck!

The Sudanese and I

Short Note: Today I almost went to client's office by wearing socks and slippers. Luckily I realized it in time. I went back to car to change, and I heard loud laugh from my heart :)

Kun left me a comment for the post "Christmas Greeting from a Student", claiming that:

I'm curious about your encounter with that Kenyan.

Okay, I try to recall what happened, as much as I can.

Firstly, I have to thank my self-claimed boss, Yen, for introducing the Sudanese, Phillip to me.

(Now I realized I wrote wrongly, he was a Sudanese, not a Kenyan.)

Yen was selling computers, computer gadgets and services throughout USQ to earn his living and tuition fees since 2003, and so far, he has got 2 shops at UniPlaza, a place that is within walking distance from USQ. Although he always failed his exams coz of working too hard, I've to say, he's a GREAT GUY (that's why I call him "boss")!

When he just started his business, he had only a car. He put A4-paper ads at almost all the notice boards within the campus, selling things at extremely reasonable price. Due to his experience of working at the farm, his stay at Downs View Lodge, and his business contacts, he knew a lot of people from all around the world.

Phillip, the Sudanese, was one of his "admirer" (I guess). He always went to Yen, asking him to tutor him in his studies.

Image from imageshack.us

Yen is always so busy (in the past as well as nowadays). Of course he couldn't spend time to tutor Phillip. Yen always told his friends and customers that I was the "student model from Malaysia". Therefore, he introduced Phillip to me, to be my so-called "student".

The deal started with mutually agreed fees, frequency and place. The venue was the top floor of the library, so that when he needed practices or help with regards to computing skills, there was PC to be used.

Not to mention his slow progress or the not-really-making-sense assignments he did, when I gave him advice on how should he improve his assignment to score better, he never listened but told me a lot of "great" excuses. Not to say he was 100% stubborn, but he ignored almost 70% of my sayings. Then, why did he want help from me?

Image from ThinkQuest

Don't tell me that I shouldn't care as long as I got money from him. I did care about my reputation (I cheekily assumed I had). I didn't wish him to tell someone, "this is what I can get by having Haan tutoring me on the subject."

I cannot accept!

WORSE thing was, he once refused to pay me! I couldn't really remember the details about why, when or how. I just remember that I was really pissed off that time.

Once, he made me so angry (forgot the details too), till I logged on to ICQ (we still used it 4 years ago) and sent a SMS to my good male friend (hereinafter referred to as "MGMF"), to vent my anger. During the night time, when we had dinner together, he told me, he felt so funny reading that SMS, and could imagine how furious I was during that moment. Funny???

There was another WORST incident.

For your information, I used to be very anti-mobile-phone during the years 2003-4. I didn't carry a mobile phone in that 2 years (before that, while in Penang, I did). I had a landline phone either in my room or office. When my friend complained that it was hard for them to find me, I would say, when you cannot reach me, that means that's the time I should not be reached. Very arrogant, huh?

However, when the was a neccessity to use mobile phone, people were very willing to help (after all, I'm a friendly girl, although being very bad-tempered once in a blue moon). During that time, Optus Prepaid mobile offered 20 minutes free call every night after 9pm. So, a lot of people called extensively after 9pm, and hung up before 20 minutes, then called again. Of course, both the calling and called parties had gotta be Optus Prepaid users.

(enough of background info)

One day, I wanted to call Phillip to inform him of something (I've forgotten what the "something" was). Then I used MGMF's mobile to call Phillip's mobile. Some time after, Phillip called back, thinking that was my mobile number. Then MGMF received the call. I was not around. He told Phillip that's not my number, and asked him to call me at my house phone. Phillip wanted to leave message, but MGMF didn't want to help. He knew I was already quite mad with Phillip.

Couldn't remember if Phillip called me after that. But he went to tell Yen that "HAAN NO LONGER STAYS WITH HER BOYFRIEND".

This was what Yen told me. I hope Yen was the only person he said this kind of thing to.

After that, I told, and repeatedly emphasized to Yen, I don't want to see or deal with Phillip anymore!!! Don't mention about him to me as well!!! But Yen liked to tease me from time to time by saying:

Phillip wants to buy you an ice cream, why do you keep on rejecting him? You look down at them. You are so bad.

I was bad? I had bias on him? Nonsense!!!

When I was a tutor, Phillip's friend was in my tutorial class too. His name is Deng. He liked to challenge me regularly in class. But so bad, I always prepared myself fully before going to class. Hehehe...

Talking about Sudanese, they are very productive yet efficient workers in the farm, because they have very good stamina. The income from farm depends on your productivity, hence their lucrative income was "imaginable". Nonetheless, they have a tendency to owe others money. Even when they bought a simple keyboard or mouse from Yen, they wanted to pay by installment. I used to see how Yen scolded Deng for delaying payment and making unreasonable requests.

During the tutorials I conducted, I also met other Sudanese. The rest were quite okay. They didn't treat me badly but instead, respected me a lot. There was one, whom I asked him a same question almost every week, till he could answer me correctly. The question was:

What does a modem do?

Honestly, I've never had any bias on the people with dark skin.

I'm just telling the true story.

Because I'm dark too.

Out of Curiousity

There is a proverb "curiosity killed the cat", which means:

If you are too interested in things you should not be interested in, you could be in danger. You may be causing yourself problems by trying to find out things you don't need to know.

However, I'm tempted to ask:

Are you visiting this blog from United Arab Emirates? If so, would you mind to let me know who are you? Do you read Chinese?

When I looked at the ClustrMaps of this site (tracking since 21/10/2007), the red dot at the part of United Arab Emirates is quite big - almost similar to the one at Sarawak, and much bigger than those at Australia.

I'm not sure if you are willing to say a word or two. But at least I try to ask. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

P/S:

When I found it was the hardest to write about WuYuan (due to the uniqueness of how people build/decorate their houses), but finally finished and publishing them day-by-day, I feel the Chinese posts do not actually welcome comments as much as the English ones.

It's always not easy in language selection. Some good friends told me, they will read only if the posts are in Chinese, whilst a lot of others do not know Chinese. Whoa.. what to do?

Would you like to tell me, which language do you prefer?

(You can name yourself Anonymous if preservation of identity is crucial)

(一)该地四周的道路正好形成一个“火”字,而这块地就正好处于或叉口上;

(一)在炎热的夏季,幽深的巷道可以避免阳光的直射;
(二)可以增加住宅建筑的密度,节约用地;
