Back from Chiang Mai

Finally, I'm now back to Malaysia.

My last day diary writing took me 1 hour. Couldn't believe it.

This morning, I woke up at around 7:15am, then packed my things. It's unusual that I shop a lot while backpacking, and this time is really an exceptional one :) However, everything still nicely fits into my backpacks.

The photo taking session of the hill tribes was fun and satisfying!

Had a last meet and chat with the Belgium guy, the Switzerland girls and some Thais at the guest house before I left. The boss of the guest house called me a songtheaw, to go to the airport. They would go for the Flower Festival together, unfortunately, I couldn't join them.

As a conclusion of my one-week trip, I've visited Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Salong, Mae Sai, Golden Triangle, Chiang Saen, Phayao.

We saw Sakura without having to go to Japan. It was on the way to Mae Salong.

The total amount spent was RM1068, inclusive of the RM263 for the return flight tickets, and RM48 for the travel insurance (assuming the exchange rate is RM1 = 10B, for easy calculation). The amount of photos taken was less than 4G.

All the way within the past 1 week, there have been a lot of people telling me, I look like a Thai (almost everyone I met, said so). However, I couldn't speak Thai, but had to say "put mai dai" to them, which means "I can't speak Thai". I think if I learn some Thai and go Thailand again, I can be a local, and will be entitled to those "local prices".

I came through a hawker who has been funny. He asked his wife to let me cook and he took pictures for me, teaching me how to pose as well. Although the photos he took were not clear, I appreciated his kindness.

Bamboo rafting together with Mr Ngo from Cheras, his son Nigel and a Thai girl, whose name is Love.

I had my 4th fly with Air Asia today. Among all my 4 flies, 50% of them were delayed. Today's flight was delayed for 1 hour and 5 minutes. I was kinda worried, coz I told Zelvin that I'd arrive first, and will wait for him. At that time, I had no way to inform him, as he was also flying, and his Optus SIM card doesn't work in Malaysia.

I slept over the 2 hours plus journey. Didn't really understand why I could sleep so much.

Once passing the immigration, the next thing is baggage claim. I switched on my mobile, and there was no SMS or missed call. I suspected he was also late, hence looked around, and saw the words "Gold Coast"! From afar, I could see him, and went over to pat on his shoulder. We met at the baggage claim area! That was something I've never encountered before.

That's why I always say, need not to worry too much! Everything has its destiny.

At the Golden Triangle together with the driver, Mong Kon and the lady tour guide, Aof.

The silly guy didn't know his flight landed on LCCT instead of KLIA, till I told him. Hence I lent him my mobile to call his relative picking him up from airport. Although we have not met for almost 1.5 year, he's still not changed. I think he's the only one who dare to talk to me like this:

Eh, how old are you already ah? Oh, 3 years younger than me, right? You are old yet still single. Don't be so picky anymore.

Bloody hell. He never realizes that he's the same as me, yet still older than me!!

Joan brought me to a local school to visit the kids.

I'm already used to his "innocence", hence will not take his words too seriously. It was again raining cats and dogs once we hopped on to his relative's car. We then went Kajang for satay, before I was sent home.

Same as usual, he'd ask me to go back to Australia to work. However, he did tell me some information today, which I need to check out, in order to successfully secure my Australian Permanent Residency.

Back to home, there's no one. Busy with all stuff like laundry, photos transfer, check my Google Reader, read all emails and blogs etc.

Joan, an American whom I knew via Couch Surfing community. She went Chiang Mai for volunteer work 4 years ago, then love the place and teaching there now.

Although I've never thought that I did something great, according to a lot of people, I'm like too daring. First, Chee Hoe commented so, then cp, my mum, the boss of the guest house, the lady at the tour agent, Zelvin, and some others I met along the trip. I think this is mainly because I do not know Thai but still had the courage to go around, only by myself.

One thing I wish to apologize to my friends on MSN messenger is, I think the PC I used last night was infected by virus, hence sending out a fake message and URL to all of you. I did notice something weird happening, but wasn't sure till you guys told me.

Chiang Mai, I hope to see you again!

Anyway, I'd like to express my heartiest appreciation to those who have been following me throughout the trip via the "On the Road" series, even those are posts without photos, only full of dull text.

In short, the journey has finished, but the writing part has just started.

CS, I discovered some great stuff from the welovepenang.com. Thanks for your recommendation. You maintain few blogs at the same time, isn't it hard? I can't do that :)

Flying fish, Happy CNY to you too! Back to Kuantan? My next trip is not yet scheduled. Not sure when will it be. Tell me the differences when you read the upcoming posts, ok? I know you will!
