Reflection, Sekinchan

It's been quite some time since I noticed a few nice scenes on my way back to Sekinchan on Friday, after work. However, I never stopped to snap any photo.

dsc_2019

Sometimes I did not bring my camera along.

Sometimes it was already too late (nearly 8pm).

Sometimes I was too tired or hungry, hence wishing to get home ASAP.

Sometimes I just tended to procrastinate without reason.

dsc_2014

Most of the time, we prone to do things LATER, coz they are so near to us, easily accessible at anytime. Then after years are gone, only we realized that we have neglected them for so long. I try to not to make such a MISTAKE, but to cherish everything, everyone that's around me.

Finally, I made a move last weekend. In the morning, I did some election shots. In the evening, I proceeded to the paddy field.

dsc_2009

It's been quite watery lately due to the rainy days. This is indeed a headache to the farmers. Some of them have just transplanted the young seedlings into the paddy field, and the excessive water endangers these small lives.

When the water is still, we see lotsa beautiful reflections in symmetry. This inspired me to shoot this series of photos.

dsc_2016
When we were kids, we used to draw something like this for the topic "My House". Agree?

dsc_2040
Typically, there would be a river, tree, flowers or probably a small animal nearby the house. Nonetheless, this house seems to be in a sea.

dsc_2031
The ground is a large mirror!

dsc_2036
That day, I actually explored into the Parit 4, somewhere I've not been to. There are quite some Indians building their houses there.

dsc_2075
At the Chinese side, you don't see a coconut tree.

dsc_2078
That's why I used to think "tree within paddy field" is only available in Kedah, not Sekinchan. Now I know I was wrong.

dsc_2111
Chinese do not build houses for own stay in the middle of paddy field. They build houses for swallows. The bird nests earn them moolah. This is another one under construction.

dsc_2113
This is obviously less attractive compared to the rest, I know.

dsc_2129
This is the mentioned "house for swallows". My good friend, heman always says he wishes he could bomb off these buildings, which spoil the beautifulness of the paddy field.

dsc_2131
This is somewhere near my house... just within walking distance. Mum and I strolled around here after dinner. A vertical and photoshoped photo is available here, taken a week earlier.

dsc_2150
This is Cainesin's favourite when I shared the batch of images on Facebook. Do you share the same thought?

dsc_2172
We had brief chat with this uncle while strolling at the paddy field. In fact, we did not know each other.

dsc_2125
As of 10 March 2008, there were more greenery paddy fields near Site B (as shown). There were more water being seen at the paddy fields near Site C.

I actually feel I'm not good in photography. I often feel sorry to my 2 DSLRs bought last year (the 1st one was stolen) coz I don't seem to have maximized their utilization.

I admit I'm not good in technical aspects, such as the adjustments of speed and aperture, and have not put much effort to master them. I only have quite an okay sense in photo composition. That's why I always feel a simple compact camera is actually more than enough for my use.

For the same photos in Black & White mode, click here. Do you like the monochrome ones, or those with colours?

(This part of the post will be REMOVED later)

Someone I actually don't know, Elbert, left me messages at the chatterbox since late last night, asking me Sekinchan-related info. I think I might do a write-up on the FAQs. Anyway, I need some time.

This morning, I managed to get some URLs which might be helpful. Take a look at the following first, before the post comes up.

  1. About eating shark - article from China Press; another article from New Straits Time

  2. My friend's friend visit to Sekinchan - a post from the blog "Mirage"

  3. The place to stay in Sekinchan, located in the town center - Harbour View Hotel (I never stay)

  4. Some beautiful photos of Sekinchan taken by: Shaolin Tiger, Sean, Terence, and so much more from Flickr (after seeing these, you might curse me for have shown you my low-grade photos)

To answer some questions from Elbert -

My friend's cousin has a longan orchard and is open for visit. Pay RM10 and you can just pluck and eat the longans. The best season (more longans) is during the middle of year. If you wish to check out more details, I can help to get the contacts. There are dragon fruits orchards too. I also don't have the contacts at this moment.

The shop selling my favourite steamed fish is located at the main road from Site B to town centre, then to Site C. It's near the field of Yoke Kuan secondary school. Just ask anyone by mentioning the name of the restaurant, you should be able to get it.

Sorry for not able to recommend you more food, as I've stopped eating seafood for quite long. You can go to Guan Seng Long restaurant at the Bagan (turn into the direction of Police Station, at the traffic light which is nearby Harbour View Hotel), go straight till the end, then turn right, twice. There are also a few nice ones near the market (pasar).

I hope I've been helpful. Just ask if you have other questions :)

Honestly,i agree with you that we prone to do things later on,our mind keep on telling us,eleh, near near, easy to do only mah.at last end up doing nothing.
your photo composition really good which you bring out what you trying to present,i like the first picture and less-attractive picture, the reflection image is simple, freedom!no other distraction.
I got some view to share here, hmm, you can try catch up whenever there is nice weather,eg sunset, like what you did in vertical shot version.also, you can try to play with angle also,it will change the way you see things :)

Haan, forgot to recomment to elbert the LALaJian & Balitong? Lalajian near Mimi's house is nice..... or d "Da fat" in town there is ok too.

Can also have shark fish masam pedas at the restoran in front of Guan Sing Loong... for lunch only.

That's all i can remember for now. haha....

darren, the 1st pic is actually what i saw every friday while driving, which was very attractive to me, making me go explore the place and shoot more :) thanks for your point of view. will practice more... instead of being lazy and waste my camera...

elbert, share with me your photos after the trip... don't forget oh!!

haan said...

yi, where can we get balitong??

BTW, if you don't know, mimi already moved to Klang with her family :)

Hi Haan, these are just my personal opinions and not pro advice la. LOL!

The first two pics have too much space on the right hand side. Probably you can zoom in more and places the subjects at the 1/3-point locations.

As for the 3rd pic, excluding the bushes at the bottom will probably give you a 'cleaner' shot. The same goes to the earth of the 12th pic.

The 4th and 8th pics have distracting electrical cables. Try to avoid these distractions in picture composition.

The rest of the phots have good compositions, but like what Shiveeleaves has said, sunset or sunrise hours give you more dramatic colours. Try to shoot at these hours and you'll see a lot of difference.

I hope those words are of help to you. Happy shooting. :)

Sometimes weather is very important coz from the picture i can saw that the sky is very cloudy it make everthing look down. Try to took pics on early morning by 6.30 to 11.00 am while sky are blue, or you choose the time while dawn. so the sun can make the field in gold color. so the image color might look more "life !!"

The photo was nice especially for the reflection one. Next time if saw cloudy again recommend you make ur pics to duotone or Blackwhite /Sepia.

Haan, the photos are very very NICE =)

I agree that we are always prone to do things later. Other than reasons like them being so near to us and easily accessible anytime, we always take things for granted. And the problem is, we always have to wait till something happens before we realise that we actually take things for granted. ><

Anyway, is Sekinchan always raining lately? I think the world weather is really getting very weird...

感觉非常好!虽然离满意还很遥远。

我很喜欢你拍的orange屋子,和四方形倒影那张耶!好不好你放在multiply~ 让大家可以一张一张点着看?呵呵~

haan, nice pics there. they were good and ck-ii really did give good tips on improving those photo shoots

haan said...

CK, thanks for your "pro" advice LOL

reg the photos that can be "cleaner", actually I was unable to get rid of the unwanted parts when I snapped. while cropping, if cutting off too much, I felt I didn't want to make a vertical image into horizontal.

also, I was thinking, why couldn't I accept the not-so-nice things around? they are the "original" part of the nature.

same goes for the electrical cables. I could have photoshoped them away, but I chose not to.

not trying to offend, "defend" or not listening, but just share the reasons..

darren & fattien, you are right... it was a gloomy day, unlike the sunny election time in the morning :) i actually saw nice rays and "colourful sky" on the next morning, around 7am.. couldn't stop to photograph that time.. try to wake up early just for shooting next time. hope i can do it ^_^

jayce, thanks :)

jam, sekinchan is fairly famous around Klang Valley... esp for photography...

elbert, for lalajian, u can have it at the coffee shop opposite the Post Office. the shop next to it is "Yee Mun"...

for balitong, it's located at Taman Aman, a residential area. there is lalajian also, according to my friend, jingyi (she won't cheat me, i believe her). i don't go and eat, cannot give any comment.

if u are not sure, just ask around. the hotel staff should be able to help. the sekinchan people are very friendly anyway. i'm a good example, right?

HAHAHA... i can't control myself from laughing!!!!

there is also a "sui gao" stall opened by my friend's parents. sui gao is nice but they only do business when they have the mood. so you have to see your luck. it's not far from the durian stall area. same words, ask around lar..

the photos are just awesome! i give 7/10. If you had a polariser attached to your lens, i would give 8/10. if you shoot during morning, i would give 8.5.

haan said...

i found it hard also when looking back at the photos to match them with the comments. maybe a photo album is really a better place to share photos. that's why i've made them clickable in multiply as fy requested.

another thanks to johnny, yi and cp :)

flying fish, glad to see you here again.. it's been long since your last comment. you are right, the change of weather is rapid and unexpected. what to do?

CK-II said...

Well, as one of my friends has said to me, sometimes I'm acting like a perfectionist in taking photos. LOL! I'll try to avoid most of the distractions in the photo if they don't contribute in giving the viewer the message.

Photography is a very subjective matter anyway. There's no absolute right or wrong. Just follow your heart when you've mastered the technical part. :)

yeah,ck-ii,me too.i would actually try my best to capture the perfect moment when taking photo.it feels good. :P

I think your photos are great! Very nice! And I think many people also wanna bomb those "houses for swallows". My brother and I actually think these people have no brain. They spoil our beautiful paddy fields.

haan said...

CK, darren, yeah you are right. photography is subjective. sometimes i'm also prone to capture only the nice parts. thanks a lot for coming to take a look!!

elbert, i can just wish u luck! let me know when you share your series of sekinchan photos!

thanks jason. gyk grew up in sekinchan too :)

coolku, since you are young, i may not know your coursemate ^_^

kun, that's why we are not rich. we don't know the way to earn $$.
