Rainbow Waterfall, Sg Lembing

Sharing: I passed my exam!! Cleared a task from my to-do list, but there are still more to accomplish.. by the way, this is very cute.. from Siu Han.
I was the one initiating a revisit to Sg Lembing (林明), due to the wrong doings during the first trip last year (and also because I could not think of any other place in Malaysia to visit).
One of the regretted items was missing the beautiful (heard to be so) Rainbow Waterfall (彩虹瀑布). To see the rainbow, we need to be there early. Hence, we had gotta start our journey from KL early in the morning, which was about 1:00am. In addition, a good weather is also a must.
I was quite scared that I'd die on the next day, as I had expected to have no sleep due to the "responsibility" to keep the driver awake (by trying to talk as much as I can). I'm okay with no food but not really the same with no sleep. However, we told each other, just take it as a challenge and see how far we could go.
Friday night, I left office quite late due to an appointment at Subang. No chance to get some sleep prior to departure. Had dinner with Norman and his friends, then I quickly drove back after getting a SMS saying Har and Neng were departing from Klang to my place.
Finally, we were able to meet at the McD just before going into the Karak highway. 3 cars all together, and the total number of people was 12. After long hours of driving, we finally arrived at Sg Lembing town at about 5:30am, as expected. It would have been earlier if we didn't go the wrong way.
Please be noted that, after exiting from the Gambang toll, we should TURN LEFT at the first traffic light (going towards the Kuantan direction), then another LEFT again at the second traffic light, which is quite some distance away. By then, just follow the "Sg Lembing" signboards.
A few references provided the WRONG info that we should turn right at the first traffic light!!! No no no no no!!!
While driving, please be aware of the cows that would come into your sight suddenly from nowhere. We almost knocked on these big brothers and we were driving in a drowsy condition. Very sorry to say, I was not able to stay awake for the entire journey. I took a short nap after getting the permission from the driver.
Once arriving, we took a rest, paid a visit to the WCs, had simple breakfast then got onto the lorry to the Rainbow Waterfall at around 6:15am.
I've got to know that we need to travel on lorry for 1.5 hour, then trek on foot for another hour, in order to reach the Rainbow Waterfall. I just didn't expect the journey on lorry would be sooooooooooo bumpy. Felt like my bones were cracking!
It's best to show you the pictures rather than trying to describe with my lousy English...
Starting the adventure by first crossing a river... the bumpy lorry trip made me feel it's better to walk than travel on the lorry..
It's been quite some time since my last waterfall adventure at Xi Tou, China, in July 2007.
Make sure you get yourself a pair of good shoes. The one on the left is a bad example, whilst the one on the right is a A+ recommendation. Ivy said the shoes cost only RM6, if I didn't hear wrongly.
We paid RM60 for a guide to bring us. Actually there are also arrow signs pointing you to the correct direction.
Oh.. leaves in white colour...
The outcome of my first encounter with a leech "attached" to me.. okay, we broke off after a few seconds. Sorry Mr Leech.
Almost arrive..
After waiting for some time, we finally saw the rainbow near the waterfall. Its name is kinda self-explanatory anyway.
The crystal clear water.
Thanks to the nice weather on that day. Otherwise, the hours of effort would have been wasted.
Anyway, just a rainbow there... not multiple ^^ (very greedy huh?)
There were 2 groups of people visiting the place. We booked the tour with 四光. The other guide is very lame, kept talking nonsense and thought himself is humorous (in fact is lack of culture, 没有文化). Really can't stand him.
The leech attached to Andrew. Thanks to him for letting us take photos before removing it. The leeches I watched from TV were always very big and fat. Luckily we only met with the baby leeches.
On the way back, Andrew did the ladies favors.
As previously mentioned, there are 2 guides bringing visitors to the Rainbow Waterfall. Thanks Guan Loo for recommending Uncle Four Lights (四光). He charges cheaper (RM320 per to-and-fro lorry trip plus RM60 for the tour guide - this can cater for up to 18 people). His mobile number is +6019 922 6818.
The other guide charges RM35 per person.
On the way back, it was very sunny. We were like 12 not-small pigs at the back of the lorry. Again, we experienced another 1.5 hour of bumpy journey. On the lorry, I could still take small nap due to extreme tiredness.
Thanks Ivy for the umbrella shade and the angry cum sarcastic look from Ann (for the good treatment I got).
We arrived back at the town centre at around 1pm.

Cool! Nice trip!
Lovely place!
A tec question:Did you process pics? Did you shot in raw and then you process? Or just shot in jpeg and then process? Whic program did you use?
Because pics has very nice exposure
I love the scenery but I dislike leech. I wont mind to climb up the hill or do the hiking as long as the leech stay far far away from me. I have been bitten several times by the leeches. But the leeches photos you took was smaller than what I encountered to. :(
andrea, i shot in jpeg, coz raw is too big and i only have limited time to process (resize, maybe some cropping, and put on watermark). i think the nice colour is due to it's Nikon :) i didn't really edit much on the colour...
meimei, i think there are ways to get rid of leech. for example, a nice pair of shoes and socks. and am not sure if applying some mosquito repellent will help.. coz of its smell..
surface, thanks for revisiting!
Nice posting of a lovely place. I like the shot with the rainbow.
Nikon rules! With the optimum in-camera setting, who needs post-processing?! Haha! :D
CK-II, that's why some commented that Nikon produces "fake colour"! But I still like it, very much...
Haan, what a nice trip! The rainbow is amazing.. So bad i couldn't join u guys. :P
I can imagine the feeling of seeing the rainbow after such a tiring journey. It's all worthwhile!
By the way, I'm also a Nikon supporter! (though I've yet to buy one) Last time, my uni lecturer advocated using Nikon, hehe :)
heman, maybe no more chance in the future lo...
kun, i chose nikon according to self-experience. best to trust myself :)
Where is this Sungai Lembing waterfall? Is it very near to KL?
No. it's somewhere 45km from Kuantan.
One good way to get rid of leeches is to bring water soaked in tobacco leaves. You can use tobacco from cigarette as well.
A friend of mine told me to soak my socks with water mixed in tobacco leaves and put it on. That way leeches won't climb up your shoes.
thanks chee hoe for the useful info! appreciate that. but u tried it before?
how many percentage the rainbow will appear? how long does walking take to the rainbow waterfall? seems like jungle trekking. exciting.
hi coolku, if the weather is nice, the possibility should be 100%. it's quite exciting. bumpy lorry alone takes 1.5 hour, then another hour of walk. the same on the way back.
May i know which model of Nikon u used to shoot these photos??
Kiwi, is Nikon D40 :) the earliest model.
Too bad it's no longer in the market!! =(
now there are more advanced models.. people all sell D40 and go for new ones. just that i'm lazy, so will use it till it cannot function anymore :P
why u still look for D40?
I've came across with D3000 but the outcome of the photo is not as what i expected. I like the "feel" or rather i should say the "colour" of the pictures u shot as above.
Which model you would recommend if i'm looking for one now?
Btw, did u use tripod to shoot the scenary of the waterfall?
kiwi, sorry to say, u might not like to hear this.. but, a lot of times... camera is just a device for us to capture photos. the photos are nice or not, yes, it depends on the camera to certain extend, but it also depends on the human.
i used to meet a girl while in NZ. both of us were holding the same camera, but she complained to me, that her photos did not look as nice as mine. We were at the same spot, shooting the same scenery.
So, after i took over her camera and checked the settings, i found that, she set a lot of things to Auto. maybe i can give u a tips. i often use "cloudy" mode instead of auto, although the weather is not cloudly. i just love the photos captured in this mode. of course, the exposure also matters.
for the photos u see here, u can see they are more "brown".. which is the effect of using the "cloudy" mode.. this mode is only good under certain circumstances, not all. for this, u need to shoot more and explore by yourself. honestly, now i still feel i don't know a lot of things. even D40 is considered old, i believe i can still utilize it very well and find out more tricky stuff about it :)
by the way, to answer your question, i never try new Nikon models. I just use my own D40 and my friend's D80, which is also very good camera.
currently I saw the Sony Alpha NEX-5. Just had a quick play with it at shop. A shutter bug friend told me (he's more expert in photography), the camera is not bad and he has bought it. maybe u can take a look at that model :)
Kiwi, no.. i didn't bring along a tripod..
Haan, i do agree with you where the nice or not nice of the photography is very depends on the user...
Thanks for the tips given, it helps me alot in the setting of the camera...
I have a friend also suggested that Sony Alpha NEX-5 is quite good..i'll take a look at that
Actually, i do believe that as long as you own a camera that you like it very much, it doesn't matter that whether it is old or a new model..
Sorry for interupting you for asking so many questions...=)
Wish you have a nice day!
no worries Kiwi, nice talking to u :)
Ola!
I'm wondering where did Ivy get those shoes (the one you said it's A+ for only RM6?)
Thanks =)
kelly, she got it from jukebox.
Im a regular hiker and I must recommend that should anyone is exploring nature regardless wet or dry adventure, best get a pair each of the jungle shoes called 'Adidas Kampung' shoes, one with studs and the other plain flat soles. It's cheap, below RM10.00! Easily found in Juke Box shops.
thanks for sharing the info!
