Sg Lembing Muck Around (Sat)
Car Broke Down | Sg Lembing Trip People | Rainbow Waterfall | Millennium Coffee Shop | Muck Around 1 | Dinner | Panorama Hill | Muck Around 2 | Muck Around 3
After taking lunch at the Millennium Coffee Shop, we walked to the Sg Lembing Rest House (林明歇脚站).
Last year, we stayed at Lembing Village Resort. This year, I'd like to try a new place located at the town centre, hence driving could be minimized. I didn't say "we" coz basically I made the decision and just informed the rest. They didn't have the choice to say NO ^^
The place we stayed. The price is very reasonable: RM40 for a double room, RM60 for a room for 4.
Opposite the Sg Lembing Rest House, there is a "petrol stand". The word "station" is too big for it.
Nothing much special could happen. Everyone was worn out. Upon arrival, I just felt the upstairs was hot compared to the downstairs. A dozen of us took turn to clean ourselves with the 3 bathrooms available. After that, it was the time to SLEEP!!! They turned on air-conditioner and took nap in rooms.
For me and a few others (Jamie, Ivy, Yi), we stayed in the living room and napped in the not very cooling environment. In between, others' movements woke me up, then the person-in-charge came to collect money from me.
For myself, the afternoon's sleep was not very satisfying. I bet others had good sleeping time anyway. Around 5pm, I prepared myself to go out for the purpose of taking photos around.
Not long after I got out, Andrew, Ivy and Jamie were also out for the same purpose.
Share with you some photos I took that evening... (I feel the old stuff looks nicer in Sepia mode, hence edited the photos so)
As I always say, I'm just a beginner in photography. If you do not mind telling me which photo looks okay (or nice) to you, that's very much appreciated.
You know, beginner needs motivation :)

I guess this must be a very quiet town.. seems like there's no human around. I think these photos would be nice if there is subject inside (for example walking old man, sleeping dog, people peeping from the window...etc), else it will looks 'empty'. Just my opinion. :)
Anyway, i like #7. Dont know why.
I like #3 specifically.
thanks heman. actually i did shoot around the area shown in #6 and #7 with human inside. an uncle was walking into the street, and his back was facing me... but the angle of that image is not as good as the shown photos.
so I've to sacrifice that :)
Yi, for #3, actually i had got that idea in mind (on the way going to the rest house after waterfall trip) before i "formally" brought my camera and started my shooting. thanks!
#3 is a creative angle, when I look at it, I have a feeling that I want to see more on the roof, instead of the lower part. You can try to apply "Golden Ratio".
#8 buildings look slanting which has created the fish eye effect and tells that the building is tall. Depend on what you want to express, if you want to make it straight, you may zoom in a bit but stand further away from the building but this way will reduce the perspective. Another good way to make it straight is to stand on top of a car :p However, it is nothing wrong to let it slanting.
generally ok except the horizontal and vertical line is a bit slanting for the first few pictures (#1-#5) where it can be improve (not the same case as pic #8, it has been purposely made slanting but the horizontal line is good.) Don't worry when you are taking the picture, because you can edit and rotate it later.
:) Just my opinion, and hope that we can share more photography ideas.
I like #1, #3, and #7.
Besides, what camera you using?
I agree with you. Old stuff always looks nicer in Sepia mode. I like pictures with perspective, so my picks are #6, #7, and #8.
#1 is pretty impressive, you are taking better photos more than i do now.
#1 is nice nice nice =)
For #1, did u applied some lens effects or is it the natural lighting?? It look too professional, gr8 shot!
I like #3.. great shot!
#1: you got the feel!
hi thanks for all the comments and so-called "votes". not sure why, when i go to somewhere i'm not familiar with, my eyes always "open bigger" and see more things for photography.
adrian, i'm using Nikon D40, the DSLR for beginners.
colin, am yet to check out what's the "golden ratio" u mentioned :) thanks for sharing your thoughts. usually i try to minimize photo editing, but i would still choose to take photos with colours, so i can have more options to manipulate - into B&W or Sepia etc.
Sri, i just use the most basic package of D40 to shoot. no additional accessories.
Make it simple, in photography "golden ratio" means don't put things for example horizontal line in the middle of the picture. :)
wow,you got the same SLR as mine.
yeah i agreed sepia mode was does make the old building looks like it's suppose-to-be age.you can try to adjust contrast abit up,it will looks nicer too.
i like #10,if im goin to take the shot,i will take the things beside the bridge too, make the bridge looks smaller and the surrounding looks big.
also for #6,#7,#8 hmm,the sky is overexposed liao, maybe you can try HDR,make the picture looks perfect.
i love #8,the lorong nice!
In sepia or b/w, HDR will cause the cloud in the sky turn yellowish / grey like the one in #10. A question to everyone, do you prefer to have cloud on the sky in yellowish /grey colour or do you want to have a total bright cloudless sky in sepia or b/w mode? In colour mode, definately HDR will help.
u beginner in photography? dont seem like lei haha. any intention to go pro or is it a hobby? :)
btw, no. 1 & 8, & 9 are beautiful (looks a bit like in .... erm, Japan no. 8).
keep the photos coming.
Darren, for #10, I did take a horizontal one as well. But finally I selected this over the one. In this photo, I'd like to take the "perspective" (from big to small) of the wooden bridge, as well as the tree - the beautiful decoration. The motorist is included to contrast the largeness of others.
Maybe I show the other image next time :)
Colin, I've gotta google HDR before I could join you guys' discussion. Now I know HDR means High Dynamic Range. Let me try it out first... Sorry, as I said, I just shoot without knowing much others ^^
Quechee, appreciate your input. will work hard on the photos today!!
i like your post... :)
thanks cathy
