Ci Walk

According to the local, Dimas, Ci means water. However, the Ci of "Ci Walk" actually means Cihampelas Walk.

Ci Walk a shopping mall that is a more sterile environment compared to Jln Cihampelas. This is a favourable destination amongst Bandung's wealthier shoppers.

It consists of a conglomeration of more up market shops in a European themed atmosphere.

You can find the worldwide chains and branches here.

From the carpark, you still see the residential, and a beautiful tree.

Factory Outlets

The factory outlets in Bandung are famous. A lot of Malaysians come to Bandung for a day trip - arrive in the morning, shop, then return at night. You can imagine how crazy are they, and how cheap are the stuff sold in Bandung.

Dimas and I arrived at Jalan Riau at night and didn't go to Jalan Dago. So not many photos were taken. According to Dimas, most of them sell local Indonesia brands whose quality are good (exported goods).

Someone in Yahoo!Answers wrote the following about the factory outlets in Bandung:
These shops used to be called sisa export and are now often called asli-palsu (or real fakes) by Indonesians. Actually they are factory outlets, which offer overruns and seconds on export garments at bargain prices. The foreign store and foreign currency price tag are often still on the items... i.e., US$ 65... with the Rp price next to it... Rp 45,000 (US$4.50).

Brands at many of the stores include: Abercrombie & Fitch, Future.now, Elle, Hugo Boss, DKNY, Esprit, Calvin Klein, Armani, Crocodile, Nike, Reebok, Limited, The Gap, Banana Republic, Guess, Polo, Adidas, Puma etc.

The shops carry both Grade A (best quality overruns) and Grade B (seconds with something wrong with them so they didn't pass quality inspection). Some also carry factory rejects... but they wouldn't broadcast that fact! Depending on the agreements between buyers/factories and factory outlets, the items are often put up for sale 3-6 months after they go on the market for full price elsewhere.

Don't be surprised if you see "Made in Korea" or "Made in Thailand" tags on the clothes too, as many of the shops buy from agents who represents factories in these countries. Or, they are really made in Indonesia and mis-labeled on purpose!

Local production for the local market is offered in the shops as well... with very different quality. Buyer beware... because some of the stores also sell fakes along with the factory seconds.

Again, I didn't shop. Not only coz I didn't have the mood, I was also out of money, after reserving some amounts for the next day's shuttle to the airport, and the airport tax to be paid during check-in.

I saw the Djarum Coklat shop and asked Dimas, is that a place selling chocolates? (was already quite excited), but he told me, that is selling cigarettes! Oh no..

Snack Corner

Stepped into a shop called Snack Corner located at Jalan Riau, and bought some titbits - 2 packets only.

The seller was generous to let us try the available varieties. These include the chicken feet, chicken intestines, cow lung and many others. I only bought the "normal" types made from plants (e.g. banana, cassava).

Martabak San Francisco

We also have murtabak in Malaysia, but in Indonesia, it's called MARtabak and is available in both salty and sweet versions. Our journey to Jalan Burangrang No. 42 was to try the sweet version.

After looking at it, I realized we also have the similar thing in Malaysia, but in smaller size. We have peanuts, corn (from can), sugar in it. Indonesians just make it more varieties - cheese, chocolate, nuts, banana, corn, jack fruit, raisin, strawberry, blueberry, almond.

The salty version is so large and is deep fried!!!! Very unhealthy eh!!
