Note: Donated my blood for the first time today! Wanna do more charity, helping others and myself. Am truly slow in writing my CS experience, so just share the first experience this round.

Before flying over to Northern Thai, I joined the group "Chiang Mai" in CS, and read through the forum threads.

In the meantime, I also asked some questions either via forum or by writing personally to the members I deemed suitable. Therefore, I got to know a place called Phayao, which is not included in the Lonely Planet travel guide.

The people I approached were kind enough to give me their numbers, so that I could call and meet with them. However, I met only one member, Joan. She knows Phayao well but there was not much time for her to tell me online, just before I left for Thai.

I called Joan when I settled down at Kanlaya Guesthouse. She met me at night after work and told me lot of info. On the next day, she left me a SIM card to the guesthouse owner while I was not around.

On my second last day in Chiang Mai (after I spent my few days elsewhere), we were supposed to travel together to somewhere out of the city. She had a class only in the evening that day. However, due to rain we had gotta cancel plan (we travel on bike, not car), but she brought me to visit a local school.

Joan went to Chiang Mai few years ago together with a voluntary group. After that she found she loves the place so much, hence moved herself from US to Chiang Mai. Nowadays she's teaching English there. She speaks very fluent Thai which is more than enough to amaze the locals.

If you ask her, how could you speak Thai so well? She'll answer, go stay with those who do not know English, then you are forced to learn.

We humans have a lot of abilities that we never imagine.

It feels good when strangers from different lands become friends. Btw, the little girl is very cute :)
