Haanism

Thanks to my company, for giving me the chance to donate my blood for the first time. It took place on last Thursday, 6 Nov 2008, the birthday of Heman and Wooi Yee.


The poster basically listed what to check if you are eligible to donate blood.

For sure I'm between the age of 18-60, with a weight above 45kg, do not have special disease, not pregnant and have sufficient sleep (at least 5 hours).

With all the criteria met, nothing could stop me from the first trial. Yeah I was fairly eager to do that.

I was afraid of injection in the past, but I heard that blood donation is good for own health while able to help others. There is really no reason for me to say NO.


That day, I went over and filled out the form together with Gary and CV. Andrew tagged along due to the "order" from his boss. Coercive power... understand?

Before that, I asked him to go many times and he replied me "you better kill me", but he didn't say so to his boss. Maybe he was scared any rejection will affect his KPI (key performance index), hehe.


After filling out the form, hold it and queue up. You need to weight yourself and have your blood pressure checked.

Meanwhile, the nurse (or related officer) will ask you some questions, such as whether you had taken breakfast etc. I said I had a cup of Milo in the morning (as usual) and she insisted that was not enough. She said I should at least eat something.


At the second stage, a little of your blood will be taken and be told of your blood group. I belong to O Positive.. actually I already knew it. I just didn't understand how could they know it immediately.

Sorry, my chemistry is not good.


My next "station" was to go eat something. I chose the chocolate muffin, as expected. I was served a cup a Milo again.. Of course the one I made myself was more delicious ~~

Actually I was quite scared... I could not witness someone making a hole and my blood came out. So I looked at the phone. My left hand was actually numbed already.

Take a look at the full version. Early that day Yvonne dated me for lunch outside, so I was concerned about the time taken.

I asked the nurse, how long would the entire process be? She said about 30 minutes, depending on the flow of blood. In actual, I finished before half an hour.


Mission is almost complete. 400ml of blood. How many people this pack of blood can save?

The blood does not look scary, when it's nicely pack :)


I finished, and was sitting at the top left corner to chit chat.
