Note: 5/6/09 - Am sick today. Took the first sick leave in 2009. Not going to work, but die die drove back to hometown before taking any medicine and sleeping session. Feeling much better now, but I still can't understand why would I get sick. I drank a lot of water and did not go under the sun. Perhaps it's due to lack of sleep and slightly more pressure at work.
Last week, we were told there should be a kickoff meeting this week. However, there was still something pending from the customer to confirm this meeting.
On Monday, the meeting was finally confirmed. The booking of flight ticket has been a little irritating. The Indian lady is new (the original Malay lady is having maternity leaves), hence getting a tad messy. I doubt the so-called confirmation email she sent about ticket issuance, but when I double checked with her, she was so sure that the tickets had been issued. When I talked to her, she had also turned off her PC, ready to go home.
The next day, she claimed that the original flight at 1:55pm was canceled, so we could only take the flight at 4:30pm. Come on, don't try to tell lie. We could easily check and knew the flight was NOT canceled. You had better admit that you actually forgot to ask the agent to issue the ticket, then I still won't feel you are hopeless!!
Norzie, I miss you. Hope you will be back to work soon!!
We reached Jakarta on Tuesday. That night, we worked till late for the next day's meeting. I had only 4 hours sleep. Though the room was nice and the bed was also very comfortable, I had no luck to spend a lot of time with them.
Impressive staircase at Ritz Carlton Hotel.
On Wednesday, Dedy drove us to the Ritz Carlton Hotel. To be honest, in other countries, normally a project kickoff will be held only at the customer's office. However, in Indonesia, it will be at a good hotel. We normally will not stay in the same hotel coz it's too expensive :P
Anyway, the Menara Peninsula Hotel we stayed was also very good. We stayed in studio room, which is considered quite spacious. As the only girl, I could have a room for myself, where all the others have to share.
The meeting was supposed to start at 8:30am. However, as expected, the people were late. It was very much later then I could expect. Honestly, I really do not wish to get used to this kind of bad habit, but I've got no choice.
Of course, not all of their people were late, but we could not start without the arrival of the key people. According to our agenda, there should be a session before the morning tea. Unfortunately we could start only AFTER the morning tea session.
Three kinds of food were served as morning tea. This one has cheese inside, very fattening, but I still ate.
My boss was so busy with the chocolate croissant, for his photo-taking purpose.
Prawn spring roll in tofu skin. This is quite delicious. I ate two, and my boss warned me that, you will be gaining weight!
This time, I also brought along my DSLR. Based on previous kickoff experience in Jakarta hotel, I knew that the lunch would be not bad :) Who knows, my boss brought his DSLR too, and was crazier in shooting than me.
Good then... I have no worry to snap... without having to feel scared that my boss might think I've no heart to work but more interested in taking photographs. When Ting Sai introduced us to the client side attendees, he actually said, "the one taking photographs is our technical director."
Another three items for afternoon tea.
Sorry I really could not eat much this round, not long after the lunch.
Siomay is quite prevalent in Indonesia too.
My boss was really like a reporter at press conference. But with his ability to talk and present, the first "photographer" impression he created to others will not reduce people's trust on him.
A photo taken after the meeting. From left, they are Dedy, Hannes, PL, Haan, PT, TS, AC and Genius. Lot more things to do after this meeting.
The lunch that day was also not bad, but the sashimi was very much lousier than last kickoff.
That night, we went to Sushi Tei to have very nice Japanese food. Coz Dedy's credit card is entitled to 30% discount, end up, we only spent around RM200+ for a very filling dinner (8 people in total).
