This is going to be the LAST post about Siem Reap temples. I know the previous posts could be a little boring :)

After the Terrace of Elephants and Leper King, it's time to go to Phnom Bakheng for sunset. We thought we could rest on the Tuk Tuk before arriving Phnom Bakheng, but very quickly, we already reached the place.

You can go up to the hill by riding an elephant, but you've gotta pay for it (USD 20).

Day 2 (8th Destination) - Phnom Bakheng

Phnom Bakheng is located 1300m north of Angkor Wat, and 400m of Angkor Thom. It was the first significant temple at Angkor and was built after Yasovarman I moved the state capital from Roluos to Yasodharapura.

The hill overlooks the West Baray, offering a view of the Tonle Sap Lake and a distant Angkor Wat in the jungle. This is also where most tourists are taken to view the sunset. Unfortunately, the hill is becoming pretty crowded nowadays, though it's usually quiet during the rest of the day.

Quick information -

Constructed: Late 9th and Early 10th century C.E
King/Patron: Yasovarman I
Religion: Hindu
Style: Bakheng

I always do not have luck for sunrise or sunset. Though the weather was still considered okay, there was no truly magnificent sunset on the day.

However, when going around, the scenery of different sides was not same.

When the night gradually fell, we decided to capture few more photos then leave the place. In addition, we could feel the slight drizzle too. When going up, it took us around 15 mins. We had to reserve the similar amount of time to get down the hill too.

Finally, I complete all the posts of my 2008 year end trip. It has taken me almost 5 months to finish.
